ER4: The potential of integrated sensor and tracing technologies for identifying large scale impacts of ecohydrological interfaces
Research Fellow: Ben Abbott, Centre national de la recherche scientifique (France)
Objectives
ER4 will lead the development of a methodology for integrating the different methods to quantify the scale-variant role of interfaces on nitrogen and carbon cycling at multiple scales (with ESR4 and ESR11). ER4 will also work closely with ER2 and ESR1on the development of adaptive models for up-scaling interface reactivities. ER4 main task will be to propose a generic framework using the different technical and biogeochemical techniques developed in INTERFACES to quantify biogeochemical hotspots at the drainage basin scale.
Tasks and methodology
As a main task, ER4 will, in collaboration with all ESRs, coordinate the INTERFACES Joint Field Experiment and facilitate the integration of the multi-method experimental approach by the development of a scalable conceptual model of ecohydrological interface fluxes and biogeochemical cycling that will form the basis and of (and be tested and revised by) the integrated numerical model developed by ER2.
