Dr Stefan Krause (Principal Investigator)
Dr Stefan Krause is a Reader in Water Sciences. His research investigating the impacts of global environmental change on hydrological fluxes, biogeochemical cycling and ecohydrological feedback functions in complex landscapes with coupled groundwater-surface water systems.

Prof David Hannah is a physical geographer with interdisciplinary research interests focusing on complementary themes within hydroclimatology (interface between hydrology-climatology). He is Head of School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Dr Mike Rivett
Dr Michael Rivett is a Senior Lecturer in Contaminant Hydrogeology in the Water Sciences research group with a specialist field-scale research interest in the transport and remediation of organic contaminants in groundwater and contaminated land systems.

Dr Gilles Pinay (Director of Research)
Gilles Pinay is the Director of the Environment Observatory of Rennes, France and Director of Research at CNRS. His research interests are related to soil and sediment biogeochemistry and more specifically to the quantification nitrogen cycling in wetlands and streams and their role in mitigating nitrogen diffuse pollution at the landscape scale.
Dr Zahra Thomas
Dr Zahra Thomas is a lecturer in hydraulic engineering at AGROCAMPUS OUEST. She is currently involved in hydrological research. She is active in development of methods for groundwater and flood modelling. Zahra Thomas is concerned with research focused on the effect of hedgerow network on water balance and solute transfer at hillslope and catchment scales. Established for 180 years in the heart of Europe’s leading agricultural and agri-food area, AGROCAMPUS OUEST is a Grande école, or ‘elite public university-level college’, for life and environmental sciences and technologies.

The National Institute of Biology has been operating and developing since 1960. It is a public research institution with the mission of creating new knowledge in the field of biology and enabling higher quality of life on Earth on the basis of findings from performed research.
Prof Valentina Turk
Prof Valentina Turk is experienced in marine microbiology and involved in many national and international studies. The focus of her research is the role of microorganisms in the marine environment and the cycling of organic matter in the Adriatic sea.

Prof Maja Ravnikar
Prof Maja Ravnikar has been employed at the National Institute of Biology since 1984. She is the head of the Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology since 2001 and scientific leader of the Instrumental Centre Planta since 1994. Together with the research team she has established the research work on plant biotechnology and pathology and developed many modern molecular methods and systems biology tools.

Dr Alba Argerich

Dr Jan Fleckenstein
Dr Jan Fleckenstein is the head of the Department of Hydrogeology at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research – UFZ. He holds a PhD in Hydrologic Sciences from the University of California, Davis and has specific expertise in hydrologic modeling and linking hydrology with biogeochemistry. His research interests are in the fields of groundwater-surface water interactions, hydrologic controls of biogeochemical turnover, and water and solute flux dynamics in catchments.

Dr Jakob Schelker
Dr. Jakob Schelker is a junior research group leader heading the ‘Stream Biofilm and Biogeochemistry Lab’ at the University of Vienna, Austria. His research interest lies in fluvial ecosystem research, specifically in hydrology and stream biogeochemistry. His recent work covers a broad range of spatio-temporal scales reaching from studies of diurnal solute variation in single stream reaches to multi-decadal, landscape scale assessments.

Dr Julian Klaus
Dr Julian Klaus is a senior researcher in hydrology at the GEOSAT research unit. Dr Carlos Wetzel
Dr Carlos Wetzel is a senior researcher specialized in taxonomy, ecology and systematic of diatoms (Bacillariophycae) focusing their use as bioindicators and related subjects. He is currently involved in projects aiming the study of the hydrological processes linking terrestrial and aquatic environments using diatoms as tracers.

Dr Athena Chalari
Dr Athena Chalari joined Silixa as an Environmental Engineer. She has considerable expertise in geological interpretation of marine seismic data, optical fibre sensing systems and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), along with field experience in environmental applications using Fibre Optic Distributed Temperature (DTS) and Acoustic Sensors (DAS). She holds a Masters in Environmental Oceanography and a PhD on Marine Geosciences from University of Patras, Geology Department. She has worked for research institutes and private companies as a researcher and consultant respectively. During the last years she has been responsible for developing marine and hydrogeological monitoring applications in collaboration with research institutes and academia.
Dr Michael Mondanos
Dr Michael Mondanos is Vice President of Sales – Industrial Applications at Silixa. He joined Silixa as a Business Development Manager for industrial monitoring applications. Michael worked a number of years in the field as a senior engineer and project manager.He holds a Masters in Communications & Radio Engineering from King’s College and a PhD in Optical Fibre Instrumentation from Imperial College London. He has worked within both university and industrial organizations in the development of optical fiber components for communications and sensing systems. In the last couple of years Michael has been involved in developing distributed sensing applications for the environment in collaboration with major research institutions and academia.

Dr Albert Sorolla
Dr Albert Sorolla Edo is Technical Director at Naturalea. He is a specialist in habitat conservation, especially rivers, with expertise in soil bioengineering techniques and author of more than 600 projects, including design and execution. Since 1998 he has devoted himself to making an active dissemination of these techniques in lectures throughout Spain (Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona, Lleida, Pamplona, Valencia, Madrid, Huelva, Orense, Bilbao ...) and other countries like the USA (Florida), France (Paris), UK (Newcastle), Germany (Bremen), Italy (Roca di Mezzo, Napoles ...), Portugal (Lisbon) ...
