Initial description

Zeyu Jiang joined the Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research in September 2017 to undertake a masters research project in fuel cells. In 2019 he commenced a PhD developing his knowledge and expertise in this subject area. Prior to this, he graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BEng Chemical Engineering degree.

The aim of his current research is to investigate the new materials for the solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and improve the carbon tolerance and operational stability of the anode material modification.

Qualifications

BEng: Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham, 2017.

MRes in Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and their Applications 2017-2018.

Biography

Zeyu graduated from his BEng degree in 2017. During the undergraduate study, he was taught chemical engineering. He completed the design project ‘Steam Methane Reforming Hydrogen Production Plant design’. He particularly designed the pressure-swing adsorption (PSA) unit for hydrogen purification in the plant.

Research

Zeyu’s research area mainly focuses on the anode materials of SOFCs. The SOFC half cells are prepared by aqueous tape casting and co-sintering methods. Cathode are further painted on the electrolyte of the half cell. The anode material is modified by noble and transition metals through infiltration method. The fabricated cells are tested in hydrogen and simulated biogas atmospheres at intermediate temperatures (600–750 oC). The electrochemical characterization, electrochemical impedance spectra, microstructure, operating conditions of the SOFCs are investigated.

Other activities

Zeyu is interested in sport activities, travelling, and cooking.
