On Thursday 24 March, alumni, donors and students came together for the annual Leaders of Tomorrow Reception to celebrate the successes of the Student Support Programmes available at the University of Birmingham.
Through the support of alumni and donors, the University has enabled 720 talented students to take up a place at the University via an Access to Birmingham (A2B) scholarship.
This year’s reception was kindly hosted in London by Mr Lee Nuttall (LLB Law, 1987; LLM Law, 1989), a partner at Gowling WLG LLP. Those attending the event were able to take advantage of the wonderful views of the River Thames and Tower Bridge.
This intimate event gave donors of the A2B scholarship programme a unique opportunity to meet some of the students who have benefited from their generous support. Through speeches and networking, alumni and supporters were able to hear of the students’ experiences at Birmingham, their future career aspirations and how these programmes have assisted them. Students also benefitted from advice and work placement offers given to them by alumni in attendance.
Students and supporters were also able to hear from Emma James (Theology and Religion, 2014), a recent graduate of the University who benefited from the support of an A2B scholarship during her studies. Emma spoke of the confidence she gained as a result of receiving her scholarship, and gave insight into how she managed to secure a graduate position at Deutsche Bank.
