Women of Impact - 8 March 2016
On Tuesday 8 March, the University of Birmingham held an afternoon tea event at the prestigious University Women's Club in Mayfair to celebrate International Women's Day.
Hosted by Lucy Baldwin (BSc Economics, 2004), Managing Director of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, more than 40 alumnae and friends of the University came together to learn more about the inspirational work being carried out at the University both by and for women. Professor Janet Lord, Director of the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, gave an engaging presentation that focused on the current major demographic changes happening worldwide. She also spoke about the implications for health in old age and how her work is trying to make sure we reach old age in good health and stay that way.
Dr Amie Wilson (PhD Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2014) and Dr Fatima Taki (MBChB Clinical, 2013) delivered a presentation on their work into global maternal health. Specifically, Drs Wilson and Taki discussed how their research aims to address the effects of sepsis on mothers in Malawi.
