Railway Systems Engineering Comes of Age
Friday 4 December 2015, 11am - 5pm
Saturday 5 December 2015, 9:30am - 1pm
Gisbert Kapp Building, University of Birmingham
The Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education invite you to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Postgraduate Programme Railway Systems Engineering and Integration. Join current and former staff, students and alumnus of the programme for a weekend of celebrations at The University of Birmingham.
History
Founded at the University of Sheffield in 1994 and transferred to the University of Birmingham in 2005, the MSc programme in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration has gone from strength to strength. It now attracts more than 40 students each year, from a great number of countries around the globe. More than 450 MSc graduates, as well as 800 people who have completed diplomas, certificates and CPD courses, are now in positions where they lead the global railway industry. An alumnus has built a new metro line in Sao Paulo, another runs Network Rail’s ERTMS Integration Facility, a third is rebuilding Peru’s railways and building a metro for Lima, while others are involved in major projects for London Underground, suburban railways in Sydney and Melbourne, and are advising clients in Norway about high-speed rail construction.
Celebration Agenda
The free event will include presentations by researchers, alumni and students reporting on their projects and achievements, tours of our laboratories and a chance to network with academics, graduates and current railway engineering students. The event offers an excellent opportunity for you to meet old friends, make new contacts and join us in celebrating the successes of the people involved in the programme both in the past and today.
