Dr Marios Koukounaras-Liagkis
Marios Koukounaras-Liagkis studied Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1994) and Greek Philology at the Democretian University of Thrace (2001). He holds an MA in Pedagogy (2001) and a PhD in Sociology of Religion (2008) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He worked as a Religious Education (RE) teacher from 2003 until 2012 and as a consultant to the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs during 2007 – 2009. Since 2013, he has been a Lecturer in Religious Education at the University of Athens.
He has organised and implemented numerous educational programmes in co-operation with the National Theatre and the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, and he has also worked as a teacher trainer in seminars. He has taken part in national and international conferences and has written articles for journals in Greece and abroad. He is the author of three books on pedagogy and the sociology of religion. His scientific interests focus on RE (learning and teaching), curriculum design, teachers' professional development and intercultural education. Since 2012, he has been carrying out research on: The constructivist approach to learning and teaching in Greek Schools: the Case of RE. This has been in collaboration with Elias Matsagkouras who is Professor of Pedagogy at the University of Athens.
