Enapter is a company that develops electrolyzers for green hydrogen production from water and renewable electricity. This solution enables the production of local green energy at scale. This process involves the use of solar electricity to power a device that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen and to store this hydrogen for night time use and for seasonal storage. Green hydrogen can also be used for mobility, industry, heating and cooling.

Use of organic waste to produce marketable products and mitigate carbon emissions

Takachar uses crop and forest waste to produce fuel and fertilizers which creates new products that can be marketed and generate opportunities for employment in rural communities but also mitigate carbon emissions. Takachar has developed and patented the design of small-scale, low-cost, portable equipment to convert waste biomass into solid fuel, fertilizer and other specialty chemicals. This equipment can be easily transported to rural communities for production.

Reinvent access to green energy for people and businesses that are living and operating in energy poor regions of the world

Reeddi developed the Reeddi capsule which is an energy device that supplies clean and reliable energy for daily electricity needs. The capsule powers led TVs, cameras, light systems, fans, laptops, tablets and other gadgets. It is compact, simple and easy to carry around. In order to address the barrier of access due to cost, the company adopted the rental model whereby people can rent the device for an entire day for 50 cents.

This involves the use of music concerts and campaigns to raise awareness of climate change, especially among young people.

Encouraging young people to act as innovators and change agents

1. It is key to keep the momentum, recharge, and realise that this is for the long run.

2. Teamwork and finding the right talent are important.

3. Solving complicated problems take time and one has to be patient.

4. Be flexible and be an avid learner because you learn as you innovate.

5. Everyone has a role in making change happen and there is so much potential to tap into in people.

6. There is power in a collective of small groups.

7. Learn from your failures, leverage them to know what steps not to take and the right steps to take.

8. Stay curious and keep asking questions

9. Anything you are doing, do it from your heart and be genuinely interested in the problem you are solving.

10. Choose one issue you want to focus on and what touches and draws you because solving all the issues could be overwhelming.

11. Success and progress is not linear, sometimes it is difficult to measure the immediate impact of campaigns, just keep going and always celebrate your wins no matter how small.
