Forum for Global Challenges Compendium of Solutions

In May 2022, the University of Birmingham convened the inaugural Forum for Global Challenges, to share and generate real-world solutions that meet pressing global challenges.

At the Forum, plenary and parallel sessions brought together policy-makers, practitioners, researchers and activists to share, debate and generate solutions to so many urgent global challenges. Speakers included David Nabarro, Special Envoy on COVID-19 for the World Health Organization; Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for the Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO; Henry Dimbleby, Lead Author of the UK National Food Strategy 2021; and, Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS. Several winners and finalists of the Earthshot Prize 2021 also shared their entrepreneurial experience in responding to environmental challenges.

These solutions have been brought together in an accessible way, topic by topic and session by session, to help spread ideas, experience and innovation. Under each session held at the Forum, you’ll find a list of solutions, with links to where you can find more information. Be inspired and motivated by these solutions, make use of them, share them, and build on them to help make the world a better place, for people and nature, together.
