Applications are invited for a Professor of Cell Biology of Membrane Receptors to the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE) to provide leadership in cellular and molecular receptor research.  Applicants should have a background in imaging approaches to study cell surface receptor activation and signaling in the fields of tyrosine kinase-linked receptors (including regulation of Src and Syk kinases) or G protein-coupled receptors.  Applicants who have a track record of active engagement with the physical and computational sciences to develop new methodologies are strongly encouraged especially in probe development, nanoscience, image analysis, and machine learning.  The major biological areas of focus in COMPARE are cardiovascular, metabolism and inflammation / immunology.

The appointment is part of a series of new posts generated by the formation of the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE) between the universities of Birmingham and Nottingham.  This is an agreed post as part of the Investment Fund across the two Universities and integral to the successful delivery of the Project.

We are seeking a dynamic academic leader with a well-established track record of delivering, designing, implementing, analysing and reporting high-quality cell biology research and a record of recent publications commensurate with an internationally recognised profile. The appointed candidate will play a leadership role within COMPARE, supporting the strategic development of the Centre including its continuation beyond its first five years and succession planning to the Current Director in Birmingham, Professor Steve Watson.

We particularly welcome applications from researchers who have developed strong international focus in their research and have established equally strong international research networks resulting in funded research, seminars and conferences, published outputs and clear impact on drug development and links with major Pharma and Biotech.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience of leading a successful research group, including securing research funding.

This is a crucial strategic post for which a competitive salary, start up, and relocation package will be offered for an outstanding candidate.

Applicants are invited to submit their application online by 28 June 2018.
