Dr Tom Neep
Senior Research Software Engineer
Tom has an MPhys in Physics and a PhD in Particle Physics, both from the University of Manchester. Following the completion of his PhD, Tom worked as a post doctoral researcher for 10 years, at the University of Manchester, CEA Saclay, and the University of Birmingham.
During his particle physics career, Tom worked on the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, where he was based for 5 years, analysing the data produced by the Large Hadron Collider. In addition to data analysis, Tom was heavily involved in writing software to enable researchers around the world to analyse datasets more easily. After joining the University of Birmingham, Tom joined two more experiments that are aiming to elucidate the nature of dark mater.
Tom joined the Research Software Group in April 2024 as a Senior Research Software Engineer, and aims to share his experience in software engineering and big data with the wider University research community.
