Simon Branford MMath (Oxon), MSc (Reading), PhD (Reading)
Deputy Leader of the Research Software Group and Principal Research Software Engineer
My experience is in computational research and I have provided high performance computing and mathematical expertise on several research projects. Prior to moving to Birmingham, I was a postdoc at the University of Reading in two different areas: evolutionary biology and meteorology.
My postdoc research built on the skills I developed during my degrees. I started at the University of Oxford, where I obtained an MMath. After this, I moved to the University of Reading where I did an MSc in Network Centred Computing with a specialisation in high performance computing; and then a PhD, where I researched the use of hybrid Monte Carlo algorithms for linear algebra problems.
