Your first weeks

There are some key things that you will need to do prior to arriving, or when you arrive on campus.

Welcome Week begins on Monday 19 September and is a great opportunity to explore campus, meet support teams, make friends and ensure you are settled in prior to the start of teaching. We encourage you to join us on campus during Welcome Week to help you make the most of you first weeks here.

Complete your Online Registration

All students must complete their Online Registration to become a student at the University. It is best to do this as soon as possible, either before you arrive or as a priority once you arrive on campus.

What to get done when you arrive

There are also additional tasks you will need to do as soon as you arrive. What to do and where to go will depend on your student status and what you are asked to do in any communications sent to you prior to arriving here.

UK and EU students

Collect your ID card.

If you have not received your University ID card through the post (UK students only), you should collect this from the Registration Welcome Hub in the marquee in Chancellor's Court (Edgbaston Campus).
You will need to have completed Online Registration before you can collect your card.

EU students arrival checklist

International students

Collect your Biometric Residency Permit (BRP) card.

As part of your visa application you will decide to collect your BRP card either from campus or the post office. If you collect it from campus, you will be allocated a collection appointment in the International Welcome Hub

What to expect when you arrive

If you are moving into University accommodation, you will be asked to arrive during our Arrivals Weekend, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September. We would encourage other students living privately to visit campus during this weekend, as there will be support available for all students.

Many of the administrative tasks you need to do will be accessible from the Welcome Village, which is our group of temporary marquees situated next to the clock tower (Old Joe) in Chancellor's Court, on the Edgbaston Campus.

Welcome Student Hub

The Welcome Student Hub will provide ID cards for UK/EU students, Online Registration support, and letters and statements for all students.

International Welcome Hub

The International Welcome Hub will provide Right to Study checks and ID cards for international students.

Welcome Marquee and Campus Tours

The Welcome Marquee in Chancellor's Court (Edgbaston Campus) will be open for you to meet the services here to support you and help you enjoy your time here at Birmingham. You can book a campus tour, pick up a campus map or ask one of our Welcome Assistants for help.

During Arrivals Weekend, you can also visit the IT Service Desk at the Welcome Marquee, for information about the services they offer, and help with things like connecting to the wifi.

Induction activities and events

Your School or College will run Induction and Welcome activities alongside central activities. You will receive an email about these local events, and information can also be found in the events pages of the Welcome website.
