SMAC is an internationally recognised group investigating steroid metabolism in health and disease in humans and other animals (mice, cats, dogs, zebrafish etc). Our multi-steroid profiling methods can be applied to urine, serum, saliva, or other bio-fluids to investigate a suite of steroids which include mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, androgens, 11-oxygenated androgens, oestrogens, steroid precursors, and alternative pathway steroids.
The SMAC group are continuously expanding their analytical capabilities to include novel biological sample types, more steroid analytes, and to develop and optimise innovative analytical tools to answer their research questions, providing novel cutting-edge technologies to lead steroid research.
For both clinical studies and research studies, SMAC provides end-to-end collaboration from study design, grant costings, method development, optimisation, and validation to data generation and journal article writing.
