Amie Wilson is a Research Fellow in Global Maternal Health and Midwife. Amie has real passion for improving care for women in resource limited settings. Amie’s PhD examined interventions to reduce maternal death in low-and-middle income countries (supervised by Professor Arri Coomarasamy and Professor Christine MacArthur). Amie’s work in evidence synthesis has achieved publications in the Lancet and British Medical Journal, and featured in World Health Organisation guidelines.

Amie has continued with her work aiming to improve outcomes for mothers and babies around the world, through clinical research in low-and-middle income countries. Amie worked with Professor Arri Coomarasamy and Professor David Lissauer (Malawi‐Liverpool‐Wellcome Trust) on the AIMS trial (Antibiotics in Miscarriage Surgery) that included over 3400 women from Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Pakistan, in an international, randomised controlled trial (published in New England Journal of Medicine). Amie is leading a Cochrane review on Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Miscarriage Surgery. Amie has worked for the World Health Organisation as a consultant, exploring the views and experiences of midwifery educators across the world, to better understand what action WHO and global partners, should take to improve quality midwifery education.

Amie is currently working with Professor Katie Morris and Professor Ioannis Gallos, comparing the evidence on medicines given to women to delay the birth of babies at risk of being born premature, to see which medicines are effective but also well-tolerated by women. This has been prioritised by the World Health Organisation and will support international guidelines on preterm birth.
