My project objective is to identify and analyse the agency of the Polish diasporas in America, Britain and France during the long nineteenth century in the restoration of Poland by those countries after WW1.  Using the Russian partition (and migration from it) as a case study, my analysis will use the lenses of imperialism, colonialism, revolution, republicanism and most of all nationalism through nineteenth century Europe to examine the actions, motives and agency of the diasporas. Last but not least, the Polish Question, and how far the diasporas’ interventions changed or progress its debate within and among the Western powers.
