School of Chemistry undergraduate degree scholarships and prizes

The School of Chemistry is proud to offer a number of scholarships and prizes that acknowledge academic excellence, reward scholarly achievement and help foster potential.

Scholarships listed below are for 2025 entry.

Haworth Scholarship for UK students

The School of Chemistry is happy to be able to recognise and reward our top incoming UK students to celebrate your academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham. In addition to initial scholarships, you may also be eligible to apply to other prizes and bursaries during your time at university to celebrate your continued academic success.

The Haworth Scholarship consists of a £2000 bank transfer during year 1 for the top 10 students who meet the conditions below. Applicants will be ranked on:

  • Top 3 A Level Grades (including Chemistry) *
  • Chemistry A Level *
  • Additional A Levels and AS Levels *
  • Other UCAS tariff *
  • GCSE grades *

No application is required, all those who meet the conditions above will be contacted during semester 1 2025.

To be eligible for this award you must:

Enhancement Scholarship for UK students

The School of Chemistry is proud to invest in our students’ future careers and as a Chemistry graduate from Birmingham, you’ll be highly sought after by a wide range of industries. Whether you choose to continue on a purely scientific path as a professional scientist or use your transferable skills in a more diverse career, you will be a talented and valuable addition to any workplace.

To further support you and enhance your employability, we are happy to offer the Enhancement Scholarship, which consists of £2000 support for students to undertake enhancement activities, such as placements, internships, or work experience, during the summer vacation of their first year.1

This scholarship will be assigned to the student on entry to the School and will be awarded once an appropriate activity has been secured by the student. Support in identifying enhancement activities will be provided via the school.  

There are 30 scholarships available, and applicants will be ranked based on the following in priority order:

  • Top 3 A Level Grades (including Chemistry) *
  • Chemistry A Level *
  • Additional A Levels and AS Levels *
  • Other UCAS tariff *
  • GCSE grades *

No application is required, all those who meet the conditions above will be contacted during semester 1 2025.

Scholarships for international students

The school of Chemistry is happy to be able to recognise and reward our top incoming international students to celebrate your academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham.  The International Chemistry Scholarship consists of a £2000 tuition fee reduction during year 1 for the top 10 students who meet the conditions below. 

Applicants will be ranked on:

  • Top 3 A Level Grades (including Chemistry) *
  • Chemistry A Level *
  • Additional A Levels and AS Levels *
  • Other UCAS tariff *
  • GCSE grades *

No application is required, all those who meet the conditions above will be contacted during semester 1 2025.

Rewarding continued academic success and contributions to chemistry

The School of Chemistry is keen to recognise sustained academic excellence and is proud to offer a range of named prizes which reward outstanding performance as well as contributions to the Chemistry community.  These prizes are awarded to successful students at the end of each academic year.

These prizes recognise excellence across different aspect of our students studies, from performance in individual year groups to overall degree outcomes, to particular aspects of the curriculum including practical classes, project work, or strands of theory, to outreach and EDI.

There are also a number of College prizes that are open to Chemistry undergraduate students.
