Midlands Sleep Group - Sleep Awareness Day: “Sleep – the second part of our day!”

Without adequate, good quality sleep we function poorly in many ways – physiologically, psychologically and socially.  The reasons for disturbed sleep can themselves be physiological, psychological or socially induced. Drive into any Midlands city or town at night and between 10:30 and 12:30, and millions of lights will go out as people settle down to sleep. Most will “have a good night sleep” but many will have poor quality disturbed sleep, some will not sleep at all, and some may sleep too much.

Our Sleep Awareness Day will focus on sharing the different visions of our Midlands Sleep Group, which is made up of clinicians and academics from the Midlands who have an interest in sleep from a clinical or research perspective, since we host many of the UK’s leading sleep specialists at our hospitals and universities locally.

In our final public session, we hope to share our passion for the world of sleep with the wider public and inform them of the great work being done at our hospitals and universities. Whilst sleep may form the quietest part of our day, we feel we have a lot to shout about the amazing world of sleep in the Midlands.
