The Policy Commission hosted a series of workshops to hear from and debate with experts from a range of backgrounds and perspectives -

Workshop 1: 'Redesigning Public Service Relationships', 27 January 2011

The Policy Commission hosted a series of workshops to hear from and debate with experts from a range of backgrounds and perspectives.

This first workshop focused on how public service relationships can be redesigned to meet the appetite for civic activism whilst also safeguarding the delivery of effective public services, in the context of significantly reduced public spending.

  • Roundtable event with the CBI Public Services Strategy Board
  • Meeting with Sir Bob Kerslake (Permanent Secretary, Department for Communities and Local Government)
  • Meeting with Sir Michael Lyons
  • ‘Table for Ten’ event with University of Birmingham alumni on theme of ‘Where now for the Public Sector and the aspiring Public Service Professional?’
  • Vice Chancellor’s Select Dinner to test out initial findings with national experts on the ‘Big Society’  

In addition, the Commission undertook a survey of young people’s views, a series of practical case studies and held focus groups with young people.
