Predictor podcast for the fringe event at the Liberal Democrats Party Conference - ‘Nuclear Power: What does the future hold?’
In advance of the Birmingham Policy Commission fringe event at the Liberal Democrats Party Conference, Professor Martin Freer introduced the work of the Commission exploring the future of nuclear power in the UK. Does the future lie with building more of the same kinds of nuclear power stations? Do we need to invest in entirely new technology? Discussing the possibility of a national energy crisis – which Martin feels the public is yet to fully grasp – he explores options for taking nuclear power forward in Britain.
Martin was one of four speakers in a debate on the future of nuclear power that took place at the Liberal Democrats autumn conference on 20 September 2011. The event was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, Professor David Eastwood, and the panel included the chair of the Commission - Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming, and Dr Susan Juned, Director, Greenwatt Technologies Sustainable Solutions.
