University of Birmingham Centre for Health and Social Care Leadership Public lecture and workshop series, Spring 2020: Inclusive Leadership in Health & Social Care: Are We Nearly There Yet?

The Centre for Health & Social Care Leadership launches its programme in 2020 with a focus on one of the most pressing questions facing the sector: why is senior leadership in health and social care still not demonstrably representative of the population it serves or the workforce it leads?

Five years since Roger Kline launched his seminal report on the 'snowy white peaks' of senior leadership in the NHS, what has changed? Roger will be sharing his observations and reflections on questions such as whether it is still the case that the more senior the pay grade, the less likely the post is filled by BME staff.

What is to be done? Tracie Jolliff, Director of Inclusion at the NHS Leadership Academy and named in 2016 as one of the 50 most influential BAME public sector leaders, will present her views on strategies for inclusive leadership. Are we ambitious, or disruptive, enough across all aspects of inclusive leadership?

Kiran Trehan, Professor of Leadership and Enterprise Development and Director of the Centre for Women’s Enterprise, Leadership, Economy & Diversity (WE LEAD) at the University of Birmingham will talk about some of the work she has led regionally  and nationally to address the leadership inclusivity gap, She will explore  how the  changing landscape  is shaping new innovative solutions  in organisations to make leadership inclusivity everyone’s business.

Such an informed and illustrious panel promises a lively and engaging debate on the issues surrounding inclusion, diversity and equality in leadership in the public sector. Chairing the debate is Dr Nicola Gale, Reader in Health Sociology and Policy at the Health Services Management Centre and a leading contributor to development of LGBTQ+ policy at the University.

We look forward to welcoming you to the conversation

Refreshments will be available from 1.30pm before the lecture starts at 2pm.
