Regional Society and Communities
The broader research agenda for WMREDI is to understand the relative impact of various interventions and investments for regional economic growth, sustainability and the reduction of social inequality in the West Midlands and the UK.
Projects in this research theme look at the role of the university in the wider societal and social cohesion aspects of regions (Quadruple Helix Model), the role of universities as Anchor Institutions, engaging citizens in strategy and policy for the future of the region, and income inequalities and inclusive growth.
Social Prescribing for Young People in the West Midlands: The Potential Impact on Employment and the Economy
Led by Professor Laura Caulfield, this project aims to consider the need for, benefits of, and potential barriers to, accessing social prescribing interventions for young people in the West Midlands, with particular focus on its impact on employability and local economy.

Led by Maryna Ramcharan, this project developed a homelessness prediction model to see how a rise in homelessness would hit areas across the West Midlands after the ban on bailiff-enforced evictions in England ended in May 2021.
