PhD Programme

The Institute of Cancer & Genomic Sciences (ICGS) has over 60 research-active Principal Investigators with broad-range research interests, who have vast experience in the training and supervision of PhD students. We have a proud tradition of training PhD students in ICGS and aim to attract highly-motivated and exceptionally-talented individuals and offer them training opportunities in the laboratories of our world-leading scientists.

Our comprehensive PhD training programme ensures that graduates typically pursue successful careers in academia, industry, healthcare and other science-related professions. We currently have over 100 students registered on our PhD programme from the UK, EU and further afield (e.g. China, Egypt, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey).

There are a number of funded PhD positions available in ICGS that are supported by the BBSRC (Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership), Cancer Research UK and the MRC that are advertised on FindaPhD on an annual basis.

We also have opportunities for self-funded PhD students. Please see our current projects on FindaPhD and contact our Principal Investigators to ascertain placement availability and current areas of research interest.

Self-funded, international students also have the opportunity to register on the Integrated PhD Life Sciences Doctoral Training Programme and select a PhD project with a Principal Investigator in ICGS.
