What is your research background and current field of research?

I am currently a Trainee Forensic Clinical Psychologist with the University of Birmingham, sponsored by Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. My thesis project as part of this doctorate focusses on understanding men's views of the factors affecting involvement and engagement with art psychotherapy for psychosis in forensic mental health inpatient services. My academic training alongside this project covers a multitude of psychological theories, models, and approaches. Previous involvement in research as an undergraduate psychologist, research assistant, and assistant psychologist, has covered topics such as theory of mind for mania, misdiagnosis in bipolar disorder, language learning processes in children, and service model audits, evaluations and developments.

Which BEAR Services have been most helpful to you in your research?

So far in my research project, I have utilised the Research Data Store (RDS) to manage my sensitive data. This has been fantastic and easy to use once set up.

How widespread do you think BEAR Services are known in your School and how do you plan to spread the word?

Within my course, I believe the BEAR services are generally not known about until you need to know about them - which may be late and cause unnecessary stress. At a School level, I think they may be generally well known about but the depth of this understanding will vary greatly based on everyone's individual research projects and the level of support they need. Therefore, I plan to advocate for extra BEAR support as and when needed, personalised as much as possible. In my role as my cohort's Student Representative, I can make sure that the needs of my peers are advocated for in relevant course meetings and information is shared back to them.

How can researchers in your School/College contact you?

Feel free to drop me an email anytime at rrs237@student.bham.ac.uk :-)

What's an interesting fact about you?

I like to read fantasy fiction novels on my days off.
