PhD Student in English Literature
What is your research background and current field of research?
I am currently undertaking a part-time PhD in English Literature exploring the Sexualisation of Jack the Ripper from the Nineteenth Century to the Present. My research looks at how the Ripper went from sparking fear in the East End during the nineteenth century to being characterised as an object of desire in twenty-first-century contemporary novels. I also work alongside my studies as a Research Support Officer at the Birmingham Medical Dental School, and I am currently a University Graduate School Scholar for Postgraduate Researchers.
Which BEAR Services have been most helpful to you in your research?
I think one of the most useful services to me would be storage back-up. There’s been many occasions where I have almost lost work because Microsoft Word crashed, or my USB has broken, so to be able to back-up securely I feel is very important.
How widespread do you think BEAR Services are known in your School and how do you plan to spread the word?
I don’t think a lot of people know about BEAR Services, but many people could benefit and learn new skills, there’s a load of workshops on offer and much support.
How can researchers in your School/College contact you?
Researchers can contact me on twitter @jan_katrina or drop me an email at KXJ110@bham.ac.uk
What's an interesting fact about you?
Through BEAR services I am actually learning to code and I am really enjoying it!
