What is your research background and current field of research?

I am currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Finance at Birmingham Business School. My research lies in the field of behavioural finance, with a particular interest in cognitive-driven mispricing anomalies in the cross-section of stock returns. More recently, I have been exploring investor heterogeneity as a potential mechanism underlying such patterns. In light of recent advances in artificial intelligence, AI-driven effects in equity markets have also become an area of growing interest to me.

Which BEAR Services have been most helpful to you in your research?

So far, the hands-on training sessions provided by BEAR have been particularly helpful in enhancing my coding skills across different research tools and in deepening my understanding of deep learning applications. These experiences have also encouraged me to engage more actively with BEAR resources, as they have contributed meaningfully to broadening my conceptual understanding of computing and AI, which I view as increasingly relevant to future research in finance.

How widespread do you think BEAR Services are known in your School and how do you plan to spread the word?

In the Business School, BEAR’s data storage and computational support services are relatively well known and have had a visible impact. On the other hand, there is still considerable potential to raise awareness around BEAR’s HPC capabilities and training opportunities. With the increasing adoption of machine learning, big data, and AI techniques in finance research, attention to these resources is growing. Organising targeted seminars and workshops can serve as an effective and efficient way to both promote BEAR services and support researchers who are exploring these computational approaches. At the same time, such events can also help identify specific needs and areas of interest across the research community.

What's an interesting fact about you?

I’m a long-time fan of historical strategy games on Steam — especially titles like Victoria 3, the Civilization series, and Age of Empires. There were times when I found myself saying “just one more turn,” only to realise it was already daylight outside. I am also, unfortunately, a long-standing victim of bugs in officially licensed game versions.
