The Algebra Group has received a number of research grants from funding bodies over the years. Here we talk about the grants and the projects they helped fund.
- Dr David Craven was awarded £71,764 for the EPSRC-funded project Uncovering the Subgroup Structure of E8. It lasts from October 2022 to September 2023, and supports Dr Craven's research into the maximal subgroups of the finite simple groups E8(q).
- Dr Matthew Westaway was awarded a Royal Commission for the Exhibition for 1851 Research Fellowship for the project Simple Representations of Modular Lie Algebras. It lasts from October 2021 to September 2024, and supports Dr Westaway's research into modular Lie algebras.
- Dr David Craven was awarded £202,256 for the EPSRC-funded project Constructing Counterexamples in Group Rings and Algebraic Topology. It lasts from January 2021 to December 2022, and supports Dr Craven's research into the structure of group rings of torsion-free groups.
- Professor Simon Goodwin was awarded £333,226 for the EPSRC-funded project Representation theory of modular Lie algebras and superalgebras. It lasts from July 2018 to December 2022, and supports Professor Goodwin's research into modular Lie algebras.
- Dr David Craven was awarded an extension to his Royal Society University Research Fellowship. It lasted from October 2017 to March 2021.
- Dr Corneliu Hoffman was awarded €195,454 for the ERC-funded project Kac-Moody groups and Computer Assistants in Mathematics. It lasted from August 2015 to July 2017.
- Dr Anton Evseev was awarded £98,451 for the EPSRC-funded project Graded representations of symmetric groups and related algebras. It lasted from September 2014 to August 2016.
- Dr David Craven was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship for the project Representation theory and local finite group theory. It lasted from October 2012 to September 2017.
- Dr Anton Evseev was awarded £95,842 for the EPSRC-funded project Unipotent characters of finite groups. It lasted from October 2011 to February 2013.
- Professors Ralf Köhl and Sergey Shpectorov were awarded £312,191 for the EPSRC-funded project Lie Algebras and incidence geometry. It lasted from August 2009 until May 2010.
- Professor Sergey Shpectorov was awarded £15,214 for the EPSRC-funded project Unitary forms of Kac-Moody algebras and Kac-Moody groups. It lasted from September 2010 to January 2011.
- Professor Simon Goodwin was awarded £324,820 for the EPSRC-funded project Representation theory of finite W-algebras. It lasted from August 2009 to August 2012, and supported Professor Goodwin's research into finite W-algebras.
- Professor Paul Flavell was awarded £116,658 for the Luverhulme Trust-funded project Automorphisms of finite groups. It lasted from 2006 to 2009.
- Professor Robert Wilson was awarded £249,532 for the EPSRC-funded project A World-Wide-Web Atlas of Group Representations. It lasted from May 2004 until April 2007.
- Professor Gerhard Röhrle was awarded £61,793 for the EPSRC-funded project Representation Theory and Geometry: Generalized Steinberg Varieties. It lasted from March 2003 to March 2006.
