WORKSHOP LEADERS –  Prof Melanie Calvert and Dr Derek Kyte, Centre for Patient-Reported Outcomes Research (CPROR), Institute of Applied Health Research

Early academic research has demonstrated that ePROMs can assist patients to better monitor and manage their LTCs and can help improve the flow of patient information between specialties and multi-disciplinary healthcare teams. Groundbreaking research conducted by IAS Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Professor Ethan Basch, demonstrated that ePROM use is associated with improved patient health-related quality of life, reduced A&E visits and inpatient hospitalisations and superior quality-adjusted survival. Danish research, conducted by Prof Niels Hjollund  has also shown ePROM systems can potentially offer secondary care cost savings, as some patients with stable LTCs prefer to be remotely monitored by their health care team via their ePROM reports, rather than attend regular (and costly) scheduled outpatient appointments, also reducing hospital transport expenditure.

This IAS workshop aims to bring together leading experts in ePROM methodology with key stakeholders including CPROR members based across a number of Colleges at UoB, patient partners, clinicians from UHB and BCH, industry and national/international experts to address these research questions and explore mechanisms for embedding efficient routine ePROM data capture within the NHS to facilitate efficient service delivery, improved patient care and enhanced patient outcomes.
