Professor Louis is one of the most distinguished US historians, having been a former President of the American Historical Association, the founder of the (US) National History Center, former Chairman of the Department of State Historical Advisory Committee, member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the leader of the Decolonization Seminars, organised through a partnership between the Library of Congress and the (US) National History Center, with funding from the Mellon Foundation.
