The Environmental Health Sciences research group, within the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, addresses a range of research issues requiring the application of chemical and physical principles to the study of environmental processes, ranging from air pollution and nanoparticles to climate change and extreme weather. Ultimately, such processes are relevant to understanding global change and environmental impacts upon ecosystems, the environment and human health.
The work of the group involves field studies, laboratory experimentation and numerical model development and application. One of our strengths is the ability to integrate all three approaches in tackling complex research problems. The group is especially well equipped with the latest state-of-the-art instrumentation for field measurements, chemical analyses and laboratory studies in the air pollution and environmental nanoscience areas.
As well as UK partners, the group has strong active research links with organizations in Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Egypt, Greece, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and the USA.
Our staff attract competitive funding from research councils, government departments, the EU and private industry. See details of funding and awards.
