This study investigates the life & work of leading educational reformist Caroline Benn, wife of one of the most prominent postwar socialists in Britain, Tony Benn.
Focusing on her circles and her times, this study will assess Caroline’s life, including the major events in her life, her personality & philosophy, and the temporal, physical and cultural contexts in which she lived.
The study will use oral history techniques with interviews, as well as archive and documentary analysis with the intention to produce an electronic archive for future research & teaching. Ultimately, an official biography of her life is to be produced, supported by the Benn family.
