Take part in youth research

Is your child aged 5 to 18 years? Do you want to take part in our research?

If you and your child (aged 5 to 18 years) would like to take part in research, you can join our Youth Database so that you can hear about upcoming projects that are suitable for your child’s age.

If you register your interest, we will contact you when your child is the right age for one of our studies. Our studies are short, fun games and most children find them interesting and informative. Many of the studies offer a voucher or small gift to those who take part. When we contact you, we will explain the study and ask if you would like to take part.

You and your child are under no obligation to take part just because you have registered with us. You can un-register at any time, without having to give a reason, just by emailing us. Your data are important to us and will be held according to the University’s Data Protection Policy and GDPR. You can find out more about this here: Data Protection - Access to personal information - University of Birmingham. When your child turns 18, your personal and contact information will be marked for permanent deletion, and we will purge information from the database once every half year. You can also choose to unregister at any point before your child turns 18. Your child can also get in touch with us directly to unregister if they are 13 years or over.

If you would like to be involved, please fill in the form below and one of our researchers will contact you when we have a study available for your child’s age. If you prefer, you can send us an email at cdsyouthresearch@contacts.bham.ac.uk including the details listed below.

We are asking for information about whether your child has a diagnosis of a developmental condition, which is considered ‘special category’ data. You do not have to disclose this information, but if you agree to disclose this, we will use this information to ensure that you hear about studies that are relevant for your child. Some of our studies are for children with specific developmental conditions (e.g., autism, dyslexia), whereas other studies are only looking for children without diagnosed developmental conditions.

If you have any questions, please let us know at cdsyouthresearch@contacts.bham.ac.uk. Note, if you have a child under 5 years, you can register your interest in taking part in infant research with the Babylab.
