Module Overview
This component will focus on the development of abilities to manage a case-load at the level of a junior grade physiotherapist. Students will have the opportunity to select a setting to undertake a practice placement experience as a 4 week elective, organised by themselves. This will give students the opportunity to critically evaluate the diversity of skills necessary for practising as a registered physiotherapist with a developing awareness of the future potential of physiotherapy provision.
The opportunity will exist to consolidate skills developed during previous placements and further develop new profession specific knowledge and skills.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the component students should be able to:
- Negotiate individual learning outcomes and demonstrate problem-solving skills in planning, organising and satisfactorily completing the placement
- Demonstrate ability to manage a caseload at junior grade level, demonstrating effective communication, teamwork, assessment and treatment skills.
- Assess the needs of a range of service users and, with reference to current professional knowledge and relevant research, apply, evaluate and modify physiotherapeutic intervention
- Demonstrate skills of life-long learning
Module delivery
Treating patients with the guidance of a clinical educator, observation of experienced clinicians treating patients; tutorials, seminars, discussion and participation in/observation of clinics, case conferences, and ward rounds as appropriate.
