Module Overview

The student will have the opportunity to identify learning needs from previous clinical experiences and attempt to address these needs within a different health care situation.  The opportunity will exist to build on skills developed during previous placements and to learn new profession-specific skills and to acquire new knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the component students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate skills of lifelong learning through evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and development of a professional portfolio
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in linking the different clinical specialities and understanding the big picture
  • Demonstrate high level assessment and treatment skills with fluency, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate evidence to inform assessment and treatment practice
  • Demonstrate high level clinical reasoning skills using evidence based practice
  • Demonstrate effective and efficient caseload management skills, using prioritizing skills, team working and appropriate communication.
  • Demonstrate safe, effective and efficient handling skills

Module delivery

The students will gain experience of physiotherapy practice within a clinical setting. Teaching and learning methods will include treating patients with the guidance of a clinical educator, observation of experienced clinicians treating patients; tutorials, seminars, discussion and participation in/observation of clinics, case conferences, and ward rounds as appropriate.
