Module Overview
The student will have the opportunity to identify learning needs from previous clinical experiences and attempt to address these needs within a different health care situation. The opportunity will exist to build on skills developed during previous placements and to learn new profession-specific skills and to acquire new knowledge.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the component students should be able to:
- Demonstrate resourcefulness and variety in planning and developing learning within the clinical area
- Undertake effective subjective and objective assessment of multiple pathologies, synthesising knowledge in order to develop problem lists and treatment plans.
- Select and apply safe and effective treatment programmes taking due account of time and resource management
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with educators and the multidisciplinary team (MDT) – engaging with the process of MDT communication and working
- Identify psychosocial, cultural and environmental issues in patient management
- Demonstrate active participation in MDT working reflecting on the function of MDT appropriate to clinical area and engaging in inter-professional learning within the MDT
- Demonstrate efficient organisational skills in the management of patients appropriate to clinical area
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate evidence to inform assessment and treatment practice
Module delivery
The students will gain experience of physiotherapy practice within a clinical setting. Teaching and learning methods will include treating patients with the guidance of a clinical educator, observation of experienced clinicians treating patients; tutorials, seminars, discussion and participation in/observation of clinics, case conferences, and ward rounds as appropriate.
