Module Overview
This required component will provide a transition to clinical practice offering students opportunities to act as participant observers in both service learning and practice placement settings.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the component students should be able to:
- Identify own learning needs for placement learning through effective use of a learning contract
- Demonstrate knowledge of clinical reasoning and its importance in practice
- Engage in observation and active participation of patient handling, demonstrating safe and professional practice.
- Demonstrate accurate and professional collection, reporting and recording of service user data as appropriate.
- Demonstrate understanding of the wide range of service user experience across the patient journey, and present evidence of challenging their own stereotypes in relation to this.
- Demonstrate understanding of the functions of the different types of MDT across health and social care, knowledge of the roles of the different members of the team and the principles of an effective MDT.
- Demonstrate appropriate and professional interpersonal communication skills across a range of service users and professionals.
Module delivery
The students will gain experience of physiotherapy practice within a clinical setting, and of service user/carer perspective within a non-clinical community-based setting. Teaching and learning methods will include treating patients with the guidance of a clinical educator, observation of experienced clinicians treating patients; tutorials, seminars, discussion and participation in/observation of clinics, case conferences, and ward rounds as appropriate.
