Module Overview
The aim of the research project is to allow students to combine the knowledge, skills and understanding of quantitative bioimaging acquired during the taught modules of the programme, and to apply these in the study of a real world biomedical question.
During this module the students will undertake a 16 week full time laboratory research project within a research group in the Medical School and will present their findings in a dissertation. Students will join their chosen research group becoming part of its activities including lab meetings, etc. They will take part in the design and management of their research project and fully undertake the experiments and write up of their data. This will allow them to consolidate their knowledge and skills, whilst developing a range of wider project management, general research and interpersonal skills.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
- Develop their knowledge and understanding within a specific area of quantitative bioimaging and contribute to the advancement of understanding in that area
- Design, carry out, interpret and report back on experimental procedures
- Manage time appropriately to ensure experiments are carried out efficiently and by deadlines
- Present their work to both a specialist and non-specialist audience clearly communicating their key findings and relevance
- Be able to critically appraise the literature in their field and how their own findings sit within this wider knowledge
Module Attendance
The module will be delivered in the research labs of the IBR area of the Medical School.
