Module Overview
This module will give you an understanding of evidence-based practice and its application to head and spinal cord injury, including epidemiology, pathophysiology, management and outcome of neurotrauma as isolated injuries or in the context of polytrauma.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the pathophysiology of central nervous system (CNS) injuries, including CNS homeostasis, primary and secondary injury mechanisms, and neuroprotection.
- Explain the management principles of neurotrauma, including the rationale for invasive neuromonitoring, the role of surgery and rehabilitation, and current evidence-based research practices in neurotrauma.
- Critically evaluate the implications of polytrauma and systemic complications in the management and outcome of CNS trauma.
