Professor Dr. Cesar R. Foschini from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UNESP, Bauru, spent four weeks (from 12 September to 12 October 2015) at the School of Chemical Engineering of the University of Birmingham collaborating with Professor Liam Grover.
During this time Prof. Foschini had the opportunity to meet with several faculty members in various departments to cement relations, discuss potential projects for combined research and development efforts between both of institutions. Potential venues for future mutual visits of faculty and post-doctoral scholars was also explored during the fellowship period. During his work here in the group at the University of Birmingham, Prof. Foschini focused on the synthesis of biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite, brushite and pyrophosphates as possible candidates for biomedical application and investigated how these materials may be harnessed to form bioresponsive ceramics.
