With a Little Help From My Friends: From Teaching Associate to Teaching Professor
- Location
- G03 Alan Walters Building
- Dates
- Wednesday 17 May 2023 (18:00-19:00)
As part of the College of Social Sciences inaugural lecture series, join leading academic Professor Nicki Newman, who will discuss her journey from teaching assistant to Professor of Business Education.
As she reflects on her journey, Nicki will firstly consider the vital role that mentors, colleagues, friends and family have played over the past twenty years and how they have supported her at the different stages of her career.
The career path for teaching-focused academics has developed considerably over the past two decades, with 5% of new professors now being teaching focused (Grove, 2023). Nicki will also reflect on these developments by considering the increasing importance of pedagogical scholarship and research and therefore the need to be part of a wider community of like-minded academics.
Nicki hopes that her inaugural lecture will inspire others to develop their own journeys within a teaching-focused career path and for those further along their path to provide a little help to their friends.
