Join us for the first ECDN conference 7 June 2024 at University House

The conference is the only one for early career researchers, early career academic staff and late stage PGRS in EPS and LES, giving you the chance to showcase your work, listen to speakers and interdisciplinary networking opportunities.

We are looking for you to be part of the event

Share your exciting work being undertaken by postdocs and early career staff across the two Colleges by submitting your abstract to be part of our programme of presentations and poster sessions.

There will be three prizes to be won for the oral presentations and for posters:
Presentations 1st Prize - £300 2nd Prize £-200 3rd Prize - £100
Posters 1st Prize - £200 2nd Prize - £150 3rd Prize - £50

Call for Abstracts

Please read the guidance for eligibility for Submission of Oral Presentations and Posters:  

  • All postdoctoral early career staff and late stage PGRs in EPS and LES are eligible to apply to present an oral presentation or a poster at the conference. 
  • Oral presentations must consist of a 5-minute presentation with 5 minutes for questions. 
  • Please present your poster in person. If your application is successful you will be sent details of appropriate poster size and format.  
  • Both posters and oral presentations should be presented in language suitable for a lay audience.

How to Apply  

Applications must be submitted using the abstract template and must clearly state your Title, name, school, the field of research, teaching or your PhD, whether you are submitting an oral presentation or a poster, the provisional title of the oral presentation or poster and provide an abstract of your research in no more than 250 words. You can provide a figure if you feel this will helpful.

Your scientific abstract will be shortlisted on the basis of the following criteria:  
  • Your abstract should have an engaging title that attracts non-specialists' attention.  
  • Your abstract should have a clear outline describing the impact of your work. 
  • You should use a jargon-free language and explain technical terms clearly wherever possible. 

Who Can Attend

The conference is open to all early career research staff in the Colleges of EPS and LES as well as doctoral students, academics and interested postdoctoral staff from other Colleges and professional services staff.
