I have enjoyed exploring different areas of Computer Science through the modules on my course. Outside of this, I have been an active member of student-led societies and sports clubs. The student support from the University has been excellent. This is something that has been particularly important during COVID-19.

Why did you choose the University of Birmingham?
Before coming to the Open Day, I had heard good things about the University from friends and relatives. The Computer Science course stood out to me because of its interesting and exciting range of modules. When I came to the Open Day I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the students and academic staff. The modern computer labs also played a part in convincing me that UoB was the place for me!
How have you enjoyed your time so far?
I have enjoyed exploring different areas of Computer Science through the modules on my course. Outside of this, I have been an active member of student-led societies and sports clubs. Societies have been a great opportunity for me to meet students across lots of different courses and to get involved with fun and interesting projects!
What do you think of the University’s location?
In my opinion, Birmingham is a great city because there is lots to do and it is well connected (making travel easy). One of the things that sold the University for me was that it is outside the city centre and the fact that as a student you will likely live in a student community (e.g., The Vale Village, Selly Oak). This being said, getting into the city centre from the University couldn't be easier, whether it be by bus, on a train from the University station or on the cycle path.
What has the student/wellbeing support been like?
The student support from the University has been excellent. This is something that has been particularly important during COVID-19. We have online tutor meetings every week with our tutor group where we can raise any issues we are having with our course and in general to get help/advice. These meetings are also a nice opportunity to talk with my course members about how they are finding their modules.
What is your favourite area (module, theme etc.) of computer science?
My favourite area of study in computer science is artificial intelligence as it is constantly evolving with new breakthroughs every year and it promises to solve some of the biggest problems that we face in the modern day.
