Hello, everyone, and welcome to today's University of Birmingham Application Guide video.  This is for students applying for direct entry, admission for the purpose of today's brief video, we will showing you how to complete the online application form for direct entry.  This information is accurate for the upcoming cycle.  And this information here is to show you an idea of what you can expect when completing the application form.  If you have any issues or questions about completing the application, please do contact us first, and we'll be happy to help you complete the application accurately.

In the first instance, you may be applying for 2+2 programme, or even a 3+1 programme. Today, this video will show you how to complete the online application form.

Just before I begin.  I want to point out that if you make any errors or mistakes on your application, please do not worry. Just let us know, because we can update your application from our side.  Please do not make a second application.

So, let's get started.

Once you've received your application links from your home university.  Please choose the programme you would like to apply for.  Once you select the programme you will be redirected to the application portal where you will need to log in as a user using your username and password.  For the purpose of this video, I'm going to choose BEng Civil Engineering and I'm entering Year 2, because I'm studying a 2+2, and I'll click apply now.

As you can see, we have a login space, and we have created new user space.  So, the majority of students will need to click the new user section. Start by setting up your account using an email address and password.  Once that's generated, you can then log into the application portal, using your username and password.

When you're completing the application. you're required to complete a number of information pages.  If you see any boxes with a green tick, this means you've successfully completed the page, while if it's a red box with a cross, you do need to go back and update the form.  So let me show you an example of what I mean.  You can see I've already registered, I've got my email address and my password and I click login.

Now you can see the course I've applied for, the mode of study, the year, the start date and the point of entry. That's all correct.  However, just below, you can see that there are many sections that I have not filled completely, and the ones that are starred I haven't yet started.  So let's click on Personal Details.

This is very basic and straight forward.  What you need to do is, fill in all of your basic details like your first name, your surname, your date of birth, gender, country of birth and nationality.  You can see that some of the students that have applied for direct entry probably haven't previously applied, studied, or been a member at the University of Birmingham.  So for this, you can just click the drop down box and click no.

Once you've completed the first page, you can click, save, and continue and move on to the next section which will be the Additional Personal Information section.

So this is where the University asks for a little more information and they ask just to know that they can support you better should you need it.  You are free to say "Prefer not to say", or you can fill out these as much as possible.  Once you've filled out all of this, you can then click, save, and continue and move onto the next section.

The next section is your contact details.  So this is obviously very important, because this is where we'll send all your information about your Birmingham application, including your offer letter.  Just make sure that you fill out all the compulsory parts that are in red, and all the ones in black are additional.  But do try to make this be filled out as much as possible.

And the last section of this page is actually very important. So for Agent, Partner Institution, and please do fill this out.  The majority of you will be selecting yes because you're applying via a University of Birmingham overseas representative or partner institution, and the partner institution will be probably be your overseas university.  So you've got a couple of universities that you an choose here. And for the purposes of this video, I'm going to select Assumption University.  So, click, save and continue.

The next section is about your education. And this is about what you have studied before applying to the University of Birmingham on this page.  Select your country of institution, your institution or school, or college name.  Add your qualification, your subject, dates you've attended from and date you will attend to.  If you haven't yet finished and you finish next June, please put that in.  You can put full time, part time, and you can say whether or not you've completed, and here you'll have an expected completion date you can fill out, which is useful for us to know.

Under 'Documents' you can upload transcripts or certificates, and any other documents you can add here as well.  For the majority of our students English is not their first language, so you can click no.  Put in your first language, so, it might be Mandarin, it might be Hindi, it might be Arabic, it might be Russian.  Then click down here where you studied whether you studied in an English medium school.

Are you also a national from a majority English speaking country, as defined by UKVI. If you're unsure, please select no.

Have you completed an academic qualification that is equivalent to a UK bachelor's degree in one of the following countries, please select this drop-down box.  Do you have an English language qualification?. I've selected Yes then there'll be another box, and you can choose which kind of qualification it is.  So here I've popped in IELTS.  You can add in your TRF number, the date of the test and all your individual scores.  Don't worry if you don't have this, many students at the time of application select no, and that's absolutely fine.  You can always do IELTS a little bit later, and remember, its not just IELTS you can take.  You can also take other language qualifications such as TOEL as well as IELTS.

Okay, let's move onto the next section, professional and work experience.  So, this is not a requirement for our direct entry students but some people like to upload things like a CV or resume.  So, it's not an essential requirement but it would be extra information for us to see.

Just for your information. We do not consider work experience for direct entry applications. But it's great if you want to disclose that information, so please do so if you would like to.  You can upload any kind of professional or other qualifications or experience in this section, and then at the bottom, you can click save and continue.

For direct entry students you don't have to upload a personal statement, so you can click no here.

The next section, your passport section.  So do you require a visa to study in the UK.  Yes.  Where do you intend to apply for your visa?.  You can fill that out here and then add in the essential details as per your passport information page.  So you've got your passport number, the date when you got it, when it was issued, the date of expiry and the country of issue.  We'd also like to see a picture of this information page.  So you can click, upload and upload a copy so that we can check this.

Also, finally, you'll be asked whether or not you previously studied in the UK.  Please fill this out.  We expect most of our students who are applying for direct entry this will be a no, but if you have studied in the UK before, please answer the relevant information requested.  Here click, save and continue, and then we can move to the next section

Application information documents.  Is there anything else that you would like to upload?  This page could be about submitting your references and your reference details.  So please do upload these if you have a copy.  If you don't have any, then that's absolutely fine. You don't need to enter that.  The final section will be here and as you can see your uploaded evidence, your data protection statement.  Please click this and your declaration.  Finally, you'll not be able to change your application once you've submitted it, you will receive an auto acknowledgement email confirming your submission of your application.

When you're ready and you have filled out all of these details, you can see that some of these are green because I finished them. Some of them are still red, so I need to fill them out a little bit more.  Once everything is in green, you can then click, submit, and then that will send an application to us.

To request any updates, please use our University of Birmingham EPS international contact email address, and we'll try to contact you within a few working days.  After you have submitted your application you can always look back into the application portal to further upload any documents.  For example, your new passport, or your new latest transcript, or even your new English language qualification. You can also use this feature to look at your University of Birmingham offer letter when it's issued.

Thank you very much for watching this short video today, and I hope it has been useful, and I hope it has guided many students to be able to navigate this a little bit better.  Thank you so much for your time, and we look forward to seeing you at the University of Birmingham and good luck with your application.  Please feel free to get in touch should you have any questions.
