MSc Computer Science (2014), School of Computer Science
Why did you originally apply to do your chosen course at Birmingham?
The Masters in Computer Science course had the exact combination of subjects I was looking for. It had the right blend of coursework as well as research work that I wanted to pursue for my postgraduate degree. It allowed me to go deeper into understanding certain areas in computer science and also develop a general understanding of various other areas.
What were the best points of your course at the University?
The best aspect of the course for me was that I was able to acquire knowledge on a wide range of subjects and not be contained to just one domain. It helped me understand the things I liked and then I went deeper into the subject of my choice for my dissertation.
What's the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?
The best thing for me was it felt like home from day one. The University lets you settle into your new environment with ease, thanks to super supportive staff and students. Also, the international exposure and the modern outlook of the University and the School are amazing.
What was the highlight of your time at the University?
The highlight of my time was my summer project. The subject I chose for my project was something that I always wanted to study. Though there was no specific course at the University on the particular subject, I received a tremendous amount of support from the School and IT innovation centre to boost my confidence to carry on my dissertation project.
What advice would you give to students thinking about studying on the course?
The only bit of advice that I would give is to look into the course and what exactly it is offering. It is not a complete research oriented course, neither a coursework oriented course. So if you are looking for a mix of both worlds, then this course would definitely suit you.
