Why did you originally apply to Birmingham?
I applied to the University of Birmingham having looked at the modules and their diversity on offer. I have been a student of Mechanical Engineering and will always be. The University's courses under the MSc Advanced Mechanical Engineering program left me with no doubt where my thirst for knowledge would be fulfilled.
What are your fondest memories of the University?
There are many fond memories I smile back on. From the late nights spent in the labs to partying with friends at the Goose or S'Oak. Walks on the ever-lively Bristol Road or along the canal in the summer. Getting up early to hit the gym and then rushing to a far-away block for classes! Lastly, I can never forget the Great Hall; that holy place and that convocation ceremony!
Did you get involved in any extracurricular activities as a student?
Yes, I was a Student Representative for my cohort and that included discussing any grievances or suggestions from the students and bringing them to light. We had regular meetings with the council and I remember having had some good debates.
How did your time at University help you start your career?
The biggest influence that the University had in kick-starting my career was that it prepared me for the rigours of work life. Be it the assignments, the thesis or the exams, the stakes were always high and I guess creating that competitive atmosphere without the student feeling pressurised is something the staff and the curriculum tackled perfectly.
