I'm working as a Graduate Highway Engineer. My daily work allows me to work on infrastructure projects where I can design and manage the tasks given to me. I work on Autodesk designing software like Civil 3D and AutoCAD. My tasks are majorly focused on early career development and helping my immediate peers to deliver the project successfully. I also attend mandatory training assigned to me as a part of my graduate development.

What is the best thing about what you are doing now?

I think the involvement in the sustainability aspect. I'm working on a guidance document where I'm writing up a section, thereby giving me the opportunity to get involved in sustainability and understand its latest trends.

What made you interested in your current role?

My master's dissertation was on transport which made me passionate about pursuing a full-time opportunity in this sector. I want to break the silos in the industry and focus on cross-asset prioritisation.

How has your career developed since graduating from the University of Birmingham?

My master's was very valuable in giving a practical insight into this industry and understanding how it functions. I feel the university equipped me with the necessary skillset with its state-of-the-art infrastructure and research opportunities. I was only focused on securing a job but when I saw there was an option of pursuing further studies after a master's, my perspective changed towards the deliverance of my reports and examinations.

Why did you originally apply to Birmingham?

I was very passionate towards pursuing a PhD in Railways and System Engineering. When I was made aware of the research opportunities Birmingham Railway Research offers, I was convinced to make an application and secure a place at this prestigious University.
