Results, Confirmation and Clearing

Most offers to study at university are conditional on your exam results, so when you receive your results you will know if you have met your offer and we will be able to confirm your place through Confirmation.

Confirmation is where universities make final decisions on the conditional offers made to applicants earlier in the year. If you made Birmingham your firm choice and meet all the terms of your offer, then you will be 'confirmed' as having your place. If you made Birmingham your insurance choice, and didn't meet the terms of your offer for your firm choice university, then we'll assess whether you met the terms of your insurance offer.

You can check the progress of your application using UCAS Track and if you receive confirmation of your place then congratulations, it's time to start preparing for university! If you are not successful then you might want to consider your options through Clearing.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a fantastic opportunity to find a place at university. Whether you achieved better results than you thought you would, missed out on your required grades, or changed your mind about what and where you want to study, you can apply through Clearing and refocus your future.

It’s also a way for students to find a place on a foundation or undergraduate course if they haven’t applied before 30 June or haven’t been accepted by their firm or insurance choice universities.

You can use Clearing if you:

  • didn't receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept)
  • were not accepted by your firm or insurance choices
  • have declined your firm place, and so are not holding any offers.

Register for a Clearing alert from Birmingham to be the first to find out about courses available in Clearing at the UK's most targeted university by leading graduate employers in 2024 (Graduate Market in 2024, High Fliers Research).

You can find out more about Clearing on the UCAS website and we've shared some top tips on how to prepare below.
