The Exchange has a dedicated Changing Places Room, accessible by lift and located on the Basement Floor. The Changing Places Facility is for assisted use and has more equipment than our standard accessible toilets
Our Changing Places Room is accessible by lift and is located on the Basement level. From the North Entrance (Broad Street), turn right, through a set of double doors, and use the lift, selecting button B for basement.
The Changing Places Facility is for assisted use and has more equipment than our standard accessible toilets. A radar key is required for access. If you do not have a key, one is available from the Venue Services Coordinator on duty. Please contact a member of staff on site or call the Visitor Services Coordinator on duty +44 (0)121 421 5265
After you enter, please lift the handle upwards in order to lock the door behind you.
Emergency pull cords
There are two emergency pull cords which are located between the wash basin and the toilet, and another by the changing couch. When this is triggered, staff will be alerted, and will make their way to the Changing Places room to assist.
Should you accidently activate the alarm please use the reset control located by the toilet.
Track Hoist
The hoist is suitable for weights up to 200kg has a constant charge track so that it will always be ready for use. This hoist will assist transfers between a wheelchair and the change couch, wash basin and toilet. It is expected that hoist users will bring their own sling to use with the hoist. The hoist has a hand-held control to move up and down and is hand guided to the required locations.
The red strap is an emergency stop feature – only use in an emergency. Reset by pushing the button on the underside of the hoist motor labelled ‘reset’.
Wash and dry Toilet – Closomat Palma Vita
A wash and dry toilet is installed in the Changing Place and will flush, spray water and then dry the user with warm air. On the right side (as you are facing the toilet) of the cistern ensure the switch is on. Use the hand-held control to activate and control the water spray.
A movable privacy screen can be pulled across the door or in front of the toilet if required.
Height adjustable wash hand basin
The lever mixer tap delivers hot and cold water. The height of the basin is adjusted by the lever control. Press and hold the lever up to raise the wash basin, and press and hold the lever down to lower the basin. When the lever is released, the motion stops.
Press and hold the lever to adjust the height. The plug is manual – push down to close the plug and pull knob upwards to release.
Height adjustable couch
The couch is height adjustable using the foot pedals and the side rails lift up and the drop to the side of the couch to assist in transfer. The back rest can be raised or lowered using the lever behind the head rest.
To elevate the couch, push the pedal downwards and repeat until correct height is achieved. To lower the couch, raise the pedal upwards, lifting the lever upwards until it reaches the correct height.
For safety, please ensure the wheels are locked when the couch is in use. When the lever is down the wheels are activated and pull the lever up (as shown in picture) to apply the brakes. Couches are not designed for transportation. To protect the couch, please use paper from the wall dispenser to cover the couch before use.
A hygiene bin and a sanitary bin are provided for waste disposal.
