Dr. Sampath Kumar Amaravadi, a chartered physiotherapist with a Ph.D., boasts a strong academic background. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Exercise training for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, a Master's in Physiotherapy specializing in Cardiopulmonary Sciences, and a Bachelor's in Physiotherapy.

Biography

Dr. Sampath Kumar Amaravadi boasts a diverse and accomplished career in physiotherapy academia and research. His journey began as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physiotherapy, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India (August 2019 - September 2020). He then moved to Gulf Medical University, Ajman, United Arab Emirates, where he continued his role as Assistant Professor until December 2022 and later, he worked as Senior Lecturer at the University of Chichester, United Kingdom (March 2023 – February 2024).

Beyond his teaching, Dr. Amaravadi is a prolific researcher with over 38 publications in prestigious, peer-reviewed international journals across leading databases like Scopus, Web of Science, Medline PubMed. He has even contributed a book chapter to the field. His dedication extends to securing grants from external funding agencies and successfully completing the associated projects.

His achievements are further recognized by prestigious awards. He was nominated as EAPC Young Ambassador- United Arab Emirates (2021-2023) by the European Association of Preventive Cardiology. Additionally, his research garnered the "Best Research from a Developing Country" title at the 2019 Journal of Wound Care (JWC) Awards held in London.

Dr. Amaravadi actively engages in the broader academic community, having attended over 30 international workshops, conferences, and CMEs. He has also been invited as a speaker on various occasions. Furthermore, he actively contributes his expertise by serving as an editorial board member for Scopus-indexed journals and an academic editor for the PLOS One journal.

Research

Dr. Amaravadi’s primary interest is in exploring the role of physical activity in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. He is particularly interested in the ways in which regular physical activity can help to reduce the incidence of conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity.

In addition to this, he is passionate about the field of cardiopulmonary physiotherapy which includes cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, exercise testing and prescription for acute and chronic diseases & Diabetic foot care. He is interested in investigating the ways in which physiotherapy interventions can be used to improve cardiopulmonary function and quality of life in patients with conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and heart failure.
