Maya Harbuzyuk is Professor of Drama Studies at Ivan Franko Lviv National University, with which the University of Birmingham is twinned, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts. She trained at Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre and Cinema, and as well as her academic expertise in drama studies she has considerable experience in present-day theatre, having served as assistant to the literary director at the Mariia Zankovetska Lviv National Theatre for a decade. She has published over a hundred articles on modern drama and over fifty on theatre history, her research including pioneering work on the transmission of Hamlet across Eastern Europe. She has held research fellowships at a range of different institutions across Ukraine and Poland, and has served on the judging panels for awards including the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine and the Ivan Franko International Prize. Together with her Ukrainian Shakespeare Centre colleague Nataliya Torkut she is assembling an encyclopaedia documenting the translation, performance and reception of Shakespeare in Ukraine.
